The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
Name of Product: Direct Vent Gas Fireplaces
Units: About 760
Manufacturer: Central Fireplace, of Greenbush, Minn.
Hazard: Excess gas can accumulate in the firebox if the pilot light is not lit or has gone out. When consumers relight the pilot light, the accumulated gas can ignite with force and shatter the glass fireplace doors posing a serious laceration hazard.
Incidents/Injuries: Central Fireplace has received seven reports of the glass doors breaking when consumers were relighting the fireplace's pilot light. No injuries have been reported.
Description: The recall involves Central Fireplace model CF3036MV-LP and CF3036MVB. The model number is located on the data plate behind the control panel door where the gas valve is located.
Sold by: Fireplace dealers nationwide from April 2001 through July 2007 for about $1,600.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled fireplaces immediately, shut off the gas supply to the fireplace, and contact Central Fireplace to arrange for a free replacement kit.
