PRODUCT: ATVs - Polaris Industries Inc., of Minneapolis, Minn., is recalling about 56,000 2000 and 2001 Polaris Xpedition 325, Trail Boss 325, and Magnum 325 all-terrain vehicles ("ATVs"). These products are 4-wheeled vehicles intended for use in off-road areas. Polaris dealers nationwide sold these vehicles from January 1999 through August 2000 for approximately $6,000.
PROBLEM: The ATVs may have loose or leaking oil cooler line clamps, that can release hot, pressurized oil. This may lead to thermal burns, to engine failure due to oil pressure loss and, in rare circumstances, could cause a vehicle fire.
INCIDENTS/INJURIES: Polaris Industries Inc. has received 1,290 warranty claims or service calls pertaining to the loose or leaking oil cooler line clamps. There have been 20 minor injuries associated with oil line failures; these injuries have been first or second degree burns, bruises and skin rashes resulting from the leaking oil.
WHAT TO DO: If consumers have not had this work already performed, they should stop using these vehicles immediately and contact their local Polaris dealer to schedule an appointment for a free repair. For more information, contact Polaris at (800)-POLARIS or visit their website at www.polaris.com.
Polaris Industries, Inc. previously communicated this campaign to its dealers and customers in October 2000. Notices were previously sent to consumers by direct mail on October 5, 2000 and June 17, 2001.

The bike’s protective chain/belt guard does not cover the belt drive and loose clothing can get entrapped in the belt drive, posing a fall hazard.
The folding mechanism can fail and cause the handlebars or stem to fold while the scooter is in use, posing a fall hazard to consumers.
The engine control module (ECM) lower mount support could have broken in production and left a loose part inside the engine compartment, allowing it to enter the throttle body area and lead to a stuck throttle. This poses a crash hazard and risk of serious injuries or death.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risk of injury associated with the use of thousands of types of consumer products. Deaths, injuries, and property damage from consumer product-related incidents cost the nation more than $1 trillion annually. Since the CPSC was established more than 50 years ago, it has worked to ensure the safety of consumer products, which has contributed to a decline in injuries associated with these products.
Federal law prohibits any person from selling products subject to a Commission ordered recall or a voluntary recall undertaken in consultation with the CPSC.
