The following product safety recall was conducted voluntarily by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
Name of Product: Hooded Sweatshirt with Drawstring
Units: About 3,400
Importer/Distributor: American Public Co., of New York, N.Y.
Hazard: The hooded sweatshirts have drawstrings, posing a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, the CPSC issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings of upper garments such as jackets and sweatshirts.
Incidents/Injuries: No incidents or injuries have been reported.
Description: The recalled sweatshirts were sold in navy and burgundy, and in youth sizes (S, M. L, and XL). The RN Number is 90614, which is located on the collar tag. "A.P.C.O." is a label stitched on the inside of the hood and "Artic Zone" is stitched on the outside of the sweatshirt.
Sold at: Exclusively through J.C. Penney's Catalog and Web site from June 2005 through August 2005 for about $25.
Manufactured in: Pakistan
Remedy: Consumers should remove the drawstring to eliminate the hazard. In addition, J.C. Penney will also notify all known purchasers by mail to remove the drawstring from the sweatshirt.
