The Sixth USA-China-EC Consumer Product Safety Trilateral Summit Registration

The U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission, Department of Customs of the People’s Republic of China, and the European Commission will hold the 6th United States-China-European Union Product Safety Summit on June 26, 2018. Stakeholders are invited to participate in this event, which is designed to enhance trilateral cooperation among the three product safety regulators. Topics to be discussed will range from coordinated approaches to emerging hazards to addressing the safety challenges presented by direct-to-consumer cross-border e-commerce. The Summit will take place in the Hearing Room of the CPSC at 4330 East West Highway, Bethesda, MD.

Panel #1 – Consumer Safety in the Digital Age

Moderated by: Richard O’Brien, Director, International Programs, U.S. CPSC

How can regulators and stakeholders manage product safety challenges posed by direct-to-consumer sales through third-party platforms, especially those that cross national borders?  Discussion will focus on collaboration in education and access to product safety requirements for suppliers.

  • Small shipments and express consignment: how companies address regulatory compliance
  • How can regulators help platforms help their sellers?
  • Voluntary commitment of platforms, if concluded

The panel will discuss risk management for goods such as hover boards, high-energy battery packs, chargers, and IoT products, among others.
