"For the CPSC Hotline Information Services Team: Thanks for building a government that works better and cost less"
-- Vice President Al Gore, in awarding the prestigious
"Hammer Award" to CPSC for outstanding customer service
CPSC is aggressively "reinventing" the agency to better serve its ultimate customers-- American consumers, families and businesses. The Commission has streamlined its programs in many ways, and has learned to do more with less.
The CPSC's reinvention efforts have produced results by:
o Improving the responsiveness and reducing the cost per call in its toll-free telephone Hotline, winning recognition by Vice President Gore and the National Performance Review;
o A Chairman's commendation program to recognize outstanding contributions to product safety by companies and individuals;
o An improved consumer information program to inform consumers about product hazards and to make recommendations on ways to reduce these hazards;
o Making innovative cooperative agreements with other Federal agencies, vastly improving CPSC's life saving and information gathering capability;
o Streamlining its investigation process and providing recall information to the public faster, and making it easier for industries regulated by CPSC to comply with laws and regulations, expedite recalls, and remove unsafe and hazardous products from our nation's marketplace.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission protects the public from the
unreasonable risk of injury or death from 15,000 types of consumer products under the agency's
jurisdiction.
To report a dangerous product or a product-related injury and for information on
CPSC's fax-on-demand service, call CPSC's hotline at (800) 638-2772 or CPSC's teletypewriter
