WASHINGTON, DC - The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) today honored Ann Brown, Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), by presenting her with its prestigious Excellence in Public Service Award for 2000.

The award recognizes Chairman Brown's leadership and consistent efforts in support of the nation's children and their families. It was presented at a reception in the United States Capitol.

When presenting the award honoring Chairman Brown, AAP President, Donald Cook, M.D., said: "Through this national recognition, the Academy's 55,000 members not only applaud your leadership and commitment to children, but use this opportunity to convey to the public our sincere appreciation for all that you have accomplished. Your demonstrated courage and dedication to our nation's children and families have most certainly had a positive impact."

Ann Brown was sworn in as Chairman of the CPSC on March 10, 1994. On July 1, 1999, the Senate confirmed her for a second seven-year term. Brown is a long time consumer advocate.
