West Music Recalls Egg-Shaker Toy Instruments Due to Choking and Aspiration Hazards
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
Name of Product: Transparent Toy Egg Shakers
Units: About 5,500
Manufacturer: West Music Company, of Coralville, Iowa
Hazard: The end cap can detach from the egg shaker and allow the small beads to spill out, posing choking/aspiration hazards to young children.
Incidents/Injuries: West Music has received a report of the end cap detaching. No injuries have been reported.
Description: This recall involves clear, plastic egg-shaped instruments with various color beads inside. The beads inside the shaker instrument come in five colors: red, white, green, dark blue and aqua. “Basic Beat” and “Jumbo Egg Crystal” is printed on a label attached to the plastic bag packaging. Model numbers “BB5102” and “202212” are printed on the side of the label.
Sold at: West Music stores in Iowa and Illinois, West Music catalog, www.westmusic.com and at West Music exhibit booths nationwide from October 2006 through December 2007 for about $2.
Manufactured in: Thailand
Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled egg shakers from young children and contact West Music for a free replacement product.
