Igloo Products Announces Recall of Coolers Due to Laceration Hazard; Sold Exclusively in West Marine Stores
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
Name of Product: Igloo Marine Elite Coolers
Units: About 7,200
Manufacturer: Igloo Products Corp., of Katy, Texas
Hazard: Sharp edges on the stainless steel latch attached to the cooler can pose a laceration hazard to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries: Igloo Products has received eight reports of lacerations requiring stitches on the consumer’s legs or arms.
Description: This recall involves Marine Elite coolers sold in white with stainless steel latches. The coolers were sold in four sizes: 72 quart, 94 quart, 128 quart and 162 quart.
Sold at: West Marine stores nationwide from January 2008 to July 2008 for between $80 and $375.
Manufactured in: United States (cooler) and China (latch)
Remedy: Consumers should stop using the cooler immediately and contact Igloo Products Corp. to receive a free latch replacement kit.
