Club Car Inc. Recalls Golf Cars and Other Vehicles; Mechanical Failure Can Result in Loss of Steering Control
The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
Name of Product: Golf Cars; Rough Terrain Vehicles; and Hospitality, Utility & Transport Vehicles
Units: About 1,900
Manufacturer: Club Car Inc., of Augusta, Ga.
Hazard: The steering gear assembly can fail, resulting in an unexpected loss of steering control, posing a risk of injury to the driver and passenger.
Incidents/Injuries: None.
Description: The recall involves various 2007 model year gasoline or electric-powered vehicles used for transportation around golf courses, hotels, resorts, airports and residential communities. Vehicles can be identified by the serial number located above and to the right of the accelerator pedal.
Sold at: Club Car dealers nationwide between April 2007 and July 2007 for between $4,000 and $12,000.
Manufactured in: United States (steering gear assemblies were manufactured in Korea)
Remedy: Not all 2007 model year vehicles are included in this recall. Owners who have not already been contacted by Club Car should check the vehicle's model and serial number on the firm's Web site or by calling Club Car to determine if their vehicle is included in the recall. Owners should stop using the recalled vehicles immediately. Club Car will inspect the vehicle to determine whether a free replacement of the steering gear assembly is needed.
